WHAT TO EXPECT
Anxiety and depression impact every single aspect of a person's life. We are led to
believe in the media that they are some kind of strange affliction, often only showing up in a particular context, like work, health or social anxiety or feeling anxious in or about relationships or certain friendships. It’s the same with depression. You might feel depressed about work, your home situation, your relationship or about something that happened to you.
The truth is (and what most therapists don’t tell you) that anxiety and depression are
symptoms or mechanisms of how you (subconsciously) choose to respond to other, deeper feelings. You may already know what they are at this point, or you may not.
If you experience anxiety and depression, chances are therefore, that there are other,
upsetting feelings that are underlying your current symptoms.
If you choose to work with me, this is where we’d start; firstly by supporting you to feel safe and understood. And when you’re ready, we would slowly begin to explore those underlying feelings that felt too difficult before. This is a huge step; trusting a stranger with your innermost thoughts, feelings, wishes and fears is a big decision which takes courage and risk that I want to honour. My first aim as a psychotherapist is to create a non-judgmental space where you feel safe and understood. I see it as a privilege, not a given, to be invited into my client’s world.
When you feel safe enough to go further, we would then slowly explore how anxiety and depression have helped you swerve certain issues. This is difficult work, but I will teach you somatic tools to help you befriend your nervous system so that the difficult feelings don’t feel overwhelming. I am a great believer in psycho-education and I’ll explain what is happening as we go along so that you can understand your experience and get to know yourself better.
I trained in Gestalt psychotherapy, and I love working in this way because…. simply, it works.
These are some Gestalt philosophies I love and that are central to my work:

Paying attention to the sensations in your body so that you can begin to befriend
your feelings again. I understand that bringing awareness to the body can often be painful and shame-inducing in itself, so we will do this work slowly and at
a pace that feels right for you.

Being curious about how we relate to each other in the present moment. Often
our fears and worries are around how others may perceive us and we may worry
about being judged or abandoned, Exploring how you relate to others is
therefore key in helping you to become aware of how you show up in
relationships, for example do you feel safe enough to express your needs?

Being authentic. I am not a blank screen therapist. I will bring my own emotional
responses to the work when I feel this is relevant so that you are not left
worrying about how what you whare is being received.
I have seen many clients over the years struggling with debilitating symptoms and not
starting therapy because they didn’t believe they could get better. When they eventually came to see me, they became aware of the beliefs that had been holding them back and they began to feel empowered to take charge of their lives again and…thrive.

We will speak on the phone to help you get to know me.
Initial Session
We will meet to discuss what has brought you to therapy so that I can explain how I can help you. You will then decide if you want to start working with me.
Regular Sessions
We will meet weekly at the same time. Some people come and see me for a few sessions only, while others see me on an open-ended basis. We will discuss your requirements during your initial session.
Duration
All sessions last 50 minutes. My fee is £75 for individuals and £85 for couples sessions.
I sometimes have concessionary spaces available.
